2nd printing of the first edition cloth hard cover with dust jacket, VG/VG. Flatsigned by Monica Shannon on free front endpaper. Otherwise unmarked, square copy with some darkening to gutters. Dust jacket neatly four corner trimmed at flaps, but retains original $2.00 price, lightly rubbed at corners with slight fraying to spine head. Newbery medallion chipped. New mylar cover. 176pp., illustrations by Atanas Katchamakoff. 1935 winner of the Newbery Medal for the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children in the year 1934. Much of the story is based loosely on the early life of Atansas Katchamakoff, illustrator of this tale and a well known sculptor who was once a peasant boy in Bulgaria, much like Dobry.
